For Austin specifically, the most practical wheatpaste sizes tend to be:

• 18"×24" — the classic sweet spot

  • Big enough to read from across the street

  • Easy to carry in stacks or a backpack

  • Fits utility boxes, plywood, alley walls, construction barriers, and venue corridors around East Austin and Red River

  • Cheapest/easiest large-format print size

• 24"×36" — best for high-impact pieces

  • Works well on warehouse walls, broad plywood facades, and industrial stretches

  • Common in East Austin mural corridors

  • Harder to install fast; catches more wind

  • Better if the artwork is graphic-heavy rather than text-heavy

• 11"×17" — best for saturation runs

  • Good for dense nightlife areas like Red River, campus zones, and music venues

  • Faster to paste repeatedly

  • Less likely to peel because smaller sheets adhere more easily

For Austin’s environment specifically:

• Humidity + heat can curl oversized posters.

• Sudden rainstorms destroy thin paper fast.

• Construction plywood is everywhere, so medium-large formats tend to work best.

• Smaller posters survive longer on rough stucco/brick.

A lot of experienced paste artists use:

• 20 lb bond or “blueback” billboard paper for durability

• black-and-white laser prints for cheap mass runs

• layered 11×17s for texture

• one large centerpiece surrounded by smaller repeats

Wheatpasting posters in the streets of Austin solely depends on the poster size, number of designs and campaign time frame. Campaigns are usually $2K to $40K in Austin.

We are able to produce wheatpaste posters in size 24×36 posters and 48×72 within 48 hours of receiving the designs. In some cases we are able to do same day printing at an additional cost which would mean the posters can be printed in less than 24 hours.

Changing of poster designs for a wheatpasting campaign in Austin is possible. Clients must notify us and submit a new design with us for the posters to be printed.
